Refining Academic Writing
Course Description
The Refining Academic Writing course aims to foster further development of learners’ knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as confidence in academic writing through a variety of classroom discussions, activities, and application tasks. The course focuses on common skills required in academic writing at the MA level including (but not limited to): introducing, summarizing, presenting, discussing, critiquing, and providing feedback. Each of these topics will be concentrated on for 2-3 weeks and will be broken down as follows:
Week 1: learners will be introduced to key concepts and considerations in relation to the academic writing topic being focused on.
Week 2: learners will participate in practice activities focusing on applying they key concepts they have learned.
Week 3: learners will construct a piece of academic writing (pertaining to the topic covered) and give and receive peer feedback.
Note* Each piece of writing constructed by the learners will be put into their portfolio and combined at the end of the course to form their own academic article (*excluding the methods section).
