Dr. Whitehead's courses aim to develop learners' practical skills as well as their comfort and confidence to use what they have learned in their daily life. Each of his courses has been strategically designed to promote the acquisition and mastery of essential knowledge, skills, and abilities through the use of high-leverage teaching practices that target not only the surface but also the underlying needs of learners.
Profile
Dr. George E. K. Whitehead currently works as Lecturer in the Language & Literacy Education Department at the University of British Columbia . He has worked in Korea, Canada and Japan as a language instructor, curriculum developer, teacher-trainer, and director of university TESOL programs. He earned his B.A. in Linguistics and his Certificate for Teaching ESL Linguistics from Simon Fraser University before going on to complete his M.A. TEFL/TESL at the University of Birmingham, and his Ph.D. at the University of Leicester. His research interests lie in the areas of language teacher leadership, language teacher education and development, and the contextualization of English language educational practices. His published work has appeared in journals such as MLJ, TESOL Quarterly, System, and RELC.
