Course Description
The Current English course is an integrated skills course which aims to increase students’ fluency in English through listening, reading, discussion, self-expression and writing tasks connected to current topics in news and international events. In this course, students will engage in a range of cognitive tasks focusing on higher-order thinking skills such as analyzing, evaluating are creating. Through the classroom tasks and discussions students will be able to develop their critical thinking skills and problem solving abilities while simultaneously developing their English fluency.
Objectives
By the end of the course, students will have:
1. increased their awareness and understanding of current events and trending topics around the world
2. examined their capacity to accommodate and assimilate language inputs and other experiences;
3. engaged in a range of cognitive tasks including; creating, applying, problem solving, critical thinking, analyzing and evaluating.
4. developed their overall ability to clearly state their opinions.

Course Evaluation
Grading is done on a curve. It means only the very top 40% of students can get an A/A+ grade, the next 30% only can get B/B+, and the lowest 30% will be awarded C grade or lower. You are competing against each other.
